NDD GIS
Boosting network research for the benefit of people with neurodevelopmental disorders and their families

With the support of the French National Strategy for Neurodevelopmental Disorders, the Neurodevelopmental Disorders Scientific Interest Group (NDD GIS) is part of the desire to give a central place to science by strengthening and structuring research. The NDD GIS is a research network of more than 130 accredited teams working in all disciplines across France. This network incorporating researchers as well as individuals concerned and their families, is widely connected at the international level.

What is the NDD GIS?

The NDD GIS is a transdisciplinary consortium of more than 130 accredited research teams representing over 750 researchers and clinicians across France. By including non-profit organizations representatives in the finalization and rollout of its scientific initiatives, the GIS aims to consolidate a form of participatory research that is respectful of everyone and capable of addressing the challenges and needs of the concerned individuals and their families.

The GIS promotes the synergy of research forces by providing support to 14 collaborative initiatives. Each initiative federates several teams with complementary competence around shared themes, methodologies, and resources. These cross-cutting initiatives are accelerators of science, supporting the most fundamental research through to that which will improve the understanding, detection, diagnosis and care of neurodevelopmental disorders.

Understanding and acting early to prevent

A word from Catherine Barthélémy

Honorary director of the NDD GIS

Scientific research in the field of neurodevelopment provides us with a deeper understanding of the establishment and functioning of the neural networks, especially in the brain. Neurodevelopmental disorders have multiple repercussions that often combine and exacerbate each other: autism, intellectual disability, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, specific learning disorders, motor disorders and epilepsy, that manifest at different ages. With this in mind, the GIS researchers have come together to study the specific or shared mechanisms underlying these disorders, from the very first stages of neural development through to old age. This objective must enable the emergence of the tools and expertise necessary in order to understand, act early, and prevent.

Comprendre et agir tôt pour prévenir.
